Pippa says: As the new year rolls around, let’s hope 2019 is a year of fruitfulness, flowers and fun in your garden! This has got to be the month where the gardening potential is lowest, with short days and, more often than not, some very uninspiring weather, so make sure you grab every decent opportunity to get out there… It’ll not only do your garden some good, but help to wear off some of the seasonal excesses too!


  • I like to make some early sowing of greenhouse tomatoes and peppers at this time of year, then, if the summer gets off to a good, early start I can have a few extra-early crops. Even if you make your main sowings next month, a few seeds into fresh compost and popped into a heated propagator now, have the potential to be a very good investment!
