Give a dragon a den

23 Jan 2012

It may be ugly, but the Dragon Fruit offers plenty of goodness and is a great way to mark the Chinese New Year, according to a television celebrity.

dragon-fruitAward-winning TV presenter James Wong has highlighted the virtues of the Dragon Fruit as the Chinese see in the Year of the Dragon today (Monday 23 January).

James will also be promoting the plant at this year’s The Edible Garden Show The Edible Garden Show, being held at Warwickshire’s Stoneleigh Park between Friday, 16 March and Sunday, 18 March.

High in fibre, protein, calcium, iron and phosphorus, the Dragon Fruit is believed to be particularly good for diabetics as they help to control blood glucose levels. While it originates from Central and South America, it can also be grown in Britain in a warm, airy room.

James will also be promoting other exotic plants at the Edible Garden Show, by giving daily talks at the event. The show is the UK’s only national event dedicated to grow-your-own edible plants and has two exhibition halls and an animal marquee.
