The ‘Shake Up Your Wake Up’ campaign is busy this week encouraging busy mums to make time for a healthy breakfast – but it seems farmers and growers need much less persuasion to embrace the idea that a hearty meal is the best way to start the day.
As part of this year’s Farmhouse Breakfast Week (Jan 22-28), the HGCA ran an online survey about breakfast habits. Around 90% of those farmers polled said they ate breakfast every day, compared to 75% of consumers (IGD March 2010 - 1,061 respondents).
HGCA Marketing Executive Karen Levy, said: “It’s great to see the farming industry recognises the importance of breakfast in maintaining a healthy lifestyle and providing the fuel needed to get through a busy working day.
“With around 90 per cent of UK grown cereals going into a range of food products from bread and porridge to bacon and eggs, the breakfast plate represents a significant market for arable farmers. As HGCA spreads the word to consumers though Farmhouse Breakfast Week, this poll shows the industry is ahead of the game.”
As part of Farmhouse Breakfast Week farmers are going into schools to help children understand more about breakfast. Events are being held around the country this week – visit www.shakeupyourwakeup.com for more information.
