Excavation open days and hands-on activities are among archaeology-linked events being organised to encourage more people to explore the past.

They are just some of the more than 700 events taking place across England and Wales during the 21st
Festival of British Archaeology, which is running until 31 July. Other events include behind-the-scenes tours, family fun days, guided walks, talks and finds identification workshops.
‘Each year the festival showcases the very best of British archaeology, by presenting hundreds of special events organised and held by museums, local societies, national and countryside parks, universities and heritage organisation across the UK,’ said educational charity the
Council for British Archaeology, which coordinates the festival.
‘The festival presents everyone with the opportunity to learn about their local heritage, to see archaeology in action, and to get involved,’ said CBA on the festival website, which includes details about events happening in different parts of England and Wales.
