Imaginative cooks up are being asked to create a Bramley apple dish to honour the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, which will go on the shelves of one of Britain’s leading retailers.

The
Bramley Campaign is looking for a celebration dish that champions the great British cooking apple while also honouring the jubilee year and Britain’s heritage. Judges will assess dishes, with the winning dish going on sale in Sainsbury’s stores in time for next year’s main jubilee festivities.
Prue Leith, food critic and judge for the Bramley Diamond Dishes competition, said there was much more people could do with the apple than make sauce.
‘I spend a lot of time banging on about fresh British ingredients, and judging the best menus by the best chefs in the country,’ she explained.
‘So I am delighted to judge the Bramley Diamond Dishes competition which brings together The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and that most British of classic ingredients, the Bramley apple. I hope the competition inspires a fresh look at the potential of such an iconic British ingredient.
‘There’s a lot more to the Bramley than apple sauce.’
Adrian Barlow, chief executive of English Apples and Pears Ltd, said the competition would combine an historic event with an iconic British product.
